Ted Sturdevant - Director of External Relations
Office of the Governor
Board President
Chair

My background includes 14 years of government and political experience in Oregon and Washington. Some examples of my past community involvement include: basketball coach, mentor, outdoor trip leader, volunteer coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, and volunteer education consultant.

I serve on the board of The Moms' House/YUP! because I believe that there is nothing more vital than giving each other and ourselves the opportunity to realize our potential as human beings. Both the Moms' House and the Youth Unlimited Partnership offer support and love to young people who need it. With that support, they can turn their attention from the hardships and conflict in their lives, and instead look inside themselves to find and unlock their potential. In so doing, they change and vitalize the world. I joined the Board in October 1997.

Bryan Jackson - Graduate North Thurston High School June 2000
College Student @ Centralia Community College
Founding YUP! member
Board Vice-President

I am a founding member of YUP! I have participated in YUP! and Moms’ House functions since 1996. Knowing how much YUP! helped me, and seeing how successful YUP! has been for all the other kids who’ve joined, and knowing how much The Moms’ House is needed, I decided to join the Board in March 2000.

Through my work with YUP! and The Moms’ House, I hope to help positively influence the lives of teens in our community.

Gisela Marquez-Lee - Nurse
St. Peter’s Chemical Dependency Program and Group Health
Parent of Two YUP! Members
Board Treasurer

I am a registered nurse at St. Peter Chemical Dependency Center and at Group Health in the Behavioral Health Department. I worked for 12 years at Western State Hospital at the Center for Forensic Services. Through these work experiences I have gained a wealth of knowledge in the Mental Health field, that I believe will help this organization better serve our target population.

I joined the Board in March 2000, because I have seen how this organization has helped many of our local youth. My own two daughters have been members of YUP! since 1998, the oldest of which joined this board in August 2000. I like the activities, a positive alternative to them getting into trouble, such as volunteering at a neighborhood senior center, field trips and meetings with local community leaders.

Hayley Jackson - Administrative Assistant at Chiropractic Office
Graduate Timberline High School 1999
Founding YUP! member
Board Secretary

I am a founding member of YUP! I lived in a house with drugs for many years and had basically no credits as a freshman. After helping get YUP! off the ground, then seeing how successful it's been for me and the other founding members, I joined the Board in September 1998. I want to help this great program expand so we can help many other teens in our community. I graduated (on time) in June 1999.

Marion Salcedo - Teacher
Puget Sound High School
Associated Student Body Advisor, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Advisor
Board Member

Puget Sound High School's 1996-97 and 1997-98 FBLA members chose The Morns' House as our community service project. A car wash put on in August 1996, by our FBLA Chapter paid for the initial corporation fees, the post office box and postage. As the alternative high school in the North Thurston School District we felt this was a good match for our students, several of which are teen parents. After watching the YUP! program assist so many of our school's students, I joined the Board in May 1999. I hope I can assist in broadening the services The Moms’ House and YUP! 's provide.

Ginele Marquez - Student
Junior @ Secondary Options High School
YUP! member since January 1999
Board Member

I am a Junior at Secondary Options. I discovered YUP! just in time, before, I was heading on the "wrong track", and didn’t know what I was really getting in to. I was introduced to Diane Smith who helped me realize my true potential, and what I needed to do to get there. I am now a member of Black Hills High School’s wrestling team, I now take dance classes six times per week, and am now on a fast track toward high school graduation.

I joined the Board in August 2000, because I decided that I was so supported by this organization, that it’s now my time to give back.
