A Request from Diane

After Columbine all of us wondered what was going on with the youth of today, many of us searching our souls for how we could help.  The Moms' House and Youth Unlimited Partnership programs, in partnership with the families, and hundreds of entities, including the North Thurston School District and the Thurston County Sheriff's Department, are helping to empower and build the self esteem of the kids we work with.  We are dedicated to these kids, and we'll continue to provide enriching opportunities that send them out to their schools, and the world, with the belief that they, too, are positive members of our community.  BUT, we can't do it without help from all of you.  Please go out and tell your friends, co-workers, and church friends about our great organization.  We need them too!

Back in June, 7 members of YUP! graduated from high school.  Two of those seven had few credits as freshmen, but caught up and graduated, on time, with straight A's to boot!

CONGRATULATIONS
to all of YUP's 2000 Graduates!

YUP!'s meetings and activities have been so well received by local youth that we have long outgrown our accomodations.  With our organization's main mission of, and belief that we could assist more teen mothers and youth in our community, who may have otherwise dropped out, complete their education, it became evident that we had to have a home base / building where we could assist our members on a more regular basis.  An inviting place for kids to come spend their free time, with supervised activities, field trips, our Dinner Speaker Meetings and last but not least, college interns available to tutor the kids on a daily basis.  So, with the assistance of our great Board of Directors, and all of you out there, on October 8 we'll kick-off a fundraising campaign, and maybe even "break ground" for YUP!s (1st) Off-the-Streets Club!  Details will be available real soon.  Mark your calendars!

Many of you donated items for our 4th Annual Party & Auction that was held on Saturday, May 13.  We want to send a HUGE thank you to all of you.  Event sponsors Altrusa International of Olympia, Olympia Federal Savings, O'Blarney's Irish Pub, Ostroms, The Other Guys and Curt's Printing are the best.  Please let our sponsors & donators know that you, too, are a part of this great effort.

And finally....

There it is!  A 3,400 sq. ft. home for five 18-20 year old mothers and their children.  It's taken almost five years, but we did it.  Watch your mailboxes for invitations to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony we expect will be in November.  Thank you one and all for never giving up.  Helping these young families transition on to permanent housing with their diplomas in hand will help the long-term outcomes of everyone involved!
